Join me for a virtual art talk

Looking for something entertaining that isn’t just another boxset?

Art history ‘Beyond the Palette’ style is just as entertaining but hands down more intriguing than your average boxset, and now you can indulge in a virtual art talk from the comfort of your own home.

More intriguing? Absolutely! Where else could you hear about illicit love affairs, wild parties, murder, shape shifting and the creation of a galaxy in the space of sixty minutes? And you get to ask questions! It’s really more of an art experience in which you coincidentally learn about art history alongside scandalous gossip, extraordinary life stories and remarkable human endeavour. Every painting tells a story and every painting has a story. I love that, and I find all the stories I can about each work I select and weave them together into one tantalising narrative. Art appreciation has never been so much fun.

I also offer exclusive art talks in a venue and for an occasion to suit you, or tours in London’s National Gallery. To book a tour at the National Gallery, click here.

Here is a list of the virtual art talks currently available. I hope there’s one to take your fancy?

Zooming in on Divas!

If paintings could throw glitter you’ll be sparkling from head to toe! The flamboyance of Bronzino’s St Sebastian finds its match in the outrageous demands of Titian’s Diana, plus we’ll meet Joshua Reynold’s most controversial model, Kitty Fisher, and unravel the secrets of a work by Tintoretto that panders to a patron who may well be the biggest diva of them all.  Sexy, fun and brimming with irreverence and gossip, feather boas are optional.

Divas! Virtual Art Tour

Zooming in on Zeus

Grab a glass of vino and join Bacchus and friends in a romp through four fabulous paintings about Greek mythology. Through the works of great masters such as Rubens, Titian and Goya, we’ll unravel some outrageous narratives which are often matched by the stories behind the canvas.

Zooming in on Wicked Women

Wickedly seductive, wickedly fabulous or just plain wicked? From the celebrated Venetian master, Titian, to the Spanish court painter, Velázquez, by way of perhaps the most famous artist in the world, Leonardo da Vinci, we’ll lift the skirts and peer down the cleavages of four sumptuous paintings, zooming in to tease out secrets and revel in the beauty, audacity, courage and, yes, wickedness of the women within them.

What can I expect from a virtual art talk with Beyond the Palette?

I use Zoom as a platform to conduct my virtual talks. I’ll send you login details a few days prior and then a reminder on the day, and all you have to do is click the link. You don’t need a Zoom account or a PhD in technology – it’s all very straightforward but if you’re worried why not contact me and we can have a quick test run so you know what to expect.

I open the Zoom meeting 10 minutes early so there’s time for everyone to join and, for those that wish to, have a chat before we start. I encourage people to leave their cameras on if they’re comfortable doing so because it’s lovely to actually have a visual audience to interact with. I never turn my screen off or read from a script so everything is straight from the heart, albeit extremely carefully curated beforehand and always, of course, accompanied by images.

Beyond the Palette art tours and talks have always involved stories and virtual tours are no different. You won’t get a list of facts or a biography full of dates and places that are impossible to remember, but a narrative that aims to bring you closer to each work, plus a good few ‘well, I never knew that’ moments that are deeply satisfying to recount to others even once the tour has long been over! I can also add some interactive multiple choice questions that always up the ante and add another fun element.
